Viburnum bodnantense Dawn

Viburnum bodnantense Dawn
Viburnum bodnantense Dawn
When Viburnum x bodnantense Dawn comes into bloom in late winter, we feel a sense of relief. The American robins must feel the same. They enjoy visiting the young leafed branches of this large shrub and showing off their orange breasts against the numerous clusters of soft pink flowers. We often cut branches so we can enjoy the perfume of the early flowers indoors. An ideal candidate for adding to moss animal topiaries. This cross between V. farreri and V. grandiflorum was developed at Bodnant Gardens, in North Wales, England, around 1935. It has been well celebrated through out the years for its flowers, but we also enjoy the delicate bronze flush of the spring green leaves. Later, occasional dark fruits accent the shrub. Some say that Dawn is somewhat gawky in habit, but we have shaped our specimen into a well balaced small tree and have no complaints. Seasonality is Late winter to early spring. Measurements are around 9 feet x 9 feet Colors are Pink flowers Hardiness Zones: 7, 8
