Philadelphus lemoinei Avalanche (x)

Philadelphus lemoinei Avalanche (x)
Philadelphus lemoinei Avalanche (x)
Victor Lemoine was one of France s most prolific hybridizers creating an amazing array of woody plants, many of which are still popular favorites. Philadelphus x lemoinei Avalanche was introduced in 1896 and is still considered by many as one of the most fragrant of all mock oranges. An ideal candidate for adding to moss animal topiaries. Using Philadelphus microphyllus, which is less hardy but very fragrant, as one parent and the much hardier Philadelphus coronarius as the other, Lemoine was able to create this short, free flowering shrub with exceptionally fragrant flowers. The flowers are only an inch wide but are gathered into racemes of 5 to 7 at the tips of the branches. The rounded dark green foliage shows the flowers to advantage. Nothing is needed to enhance the fragrance except perhaps some sunny walls to keep the perfume from drifting away. Seasonality is May to June. Measurements are around 4 5 feet x 5 10 feet Colors are White flowers Hardiness Zones: 5, 6, 7, 8
