Hydrangea paniculata Burgundy Lace

Hydrangea paniculata Burgundy Lace
Hydrangea paniculata Burgundy Lace
Introduced in 1975 by the well known Belgian hybridizers Jelena and Robert de Belder, Hydrangea Burgundy Lace continues to be a popular large shrub. The name describes the color and texture of the foot long panicles as they change color in the autumn. As the sterile florets are fertilized they turn their wine colored reverse sides up giving the panicle a new color. The leaves are quite large, 6 inches long and 3 inches wide, with reddish leaf stems. An ideal candidate for adding to moss animal topiaries. Autumn brings a color change to the leaves as well, turning them from green to yellow. We have limbed up our specimen in the shape of a small tree and have underplanted it with perennials and small shrubs. This creates a long blooming setting that can be done even in a small garden. Seasonality is August to autumn. Measurements are around 7 feet x 7 8 feet Colors are White flowers Hardiness Zones: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8,
