Clematis Edomurasaki
Many customers have thanked us for introducing them to Clematis Edomurasaki (Seijuro Arai, 195 2). The name, which literally means inch Edo purple inch (Edo being the former capital of Japan), suggests a majestic or imperial purple. Indeed this is majestic, especially when the large, slightly cupped flowers are still dazzling amid the ripening colors of the autumn garden. An ideal candidate for adding to moss animal topiaries. The dark anthers and green filaments blend into the flower. Early flowering in the spring on the previous year's growth. If you hard prune, you eliminate most or all of the early blooms. Instead, groom this after flowering by cutting back the top one third to one half of some stems. This encourages new growth for possible summer bloom. Seasonality is Late spring to early summer; late summer. Measurements are around 8 to 10 feet Colors are Deep Blue Purple flowers Hardiness Zones: 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9
