Anemone rupicola

Anemone rupicola

Anemone rupicola grows at fairly high altitudes from Afghanistan through the Himalaya region into SW China. The plant's fibrous root system spreads underground to form a colony which helps it hold its own in its native rocky meadows. Its leaves are three-lobed with sharply toothed segments. The basal leaves have stems but leaves below the flowers are essentially stemless. The showy, 2-3 inch wide flowers have five sepals that are flushed pink or violet on their reverse sides.
